6MMRPC - A Glance Back at Week 5

CMON'S campaign for Zombicide: Black Plague wrapped up with many new records and ultimately cleaned out my wallet.  I look forward to playing this new version with family and friends early next year.

My intent was to finally sit down at the workbench and paint.  After all, I had a 3 day weekend, there should have been plenty of time to paint.  Add good temps and low humidity for priming some minis & terrain pieces, maybe sealing some others...should have been a productive weekend, right?

Well, it actually was a productive weekend, but not for this particular hobby or Challenge.  Instead, progress came in the form of working out at the YMCA with my family Friday night.  We played most of a card game (Smash Up), watched the neighborhood light up a ton of fireworks, a attended church, practiced guitar, mowed the lawn, played 9 holes of disc golf and more.

Some of this is a relatively new hobby for me and my daughter - I am slowly learning to play electric guitar, and she is learning the electric bass guitar.  We are taking 1/2 hour lessons together Monday nights during the summer, before she starts high school and marching band gets takes all her time and energy.  She may pick it back up in the Fall.  Time will tell.  I may continue with lessons because I really enjoy them, plus learning to play has been too long on my Bucket List and needed to move to my DOING List.

The other activities line up with a personal Challenge set for myself.  I call it 'Fit by Fifty'.  As painful as it is for me to admit, I will turn 50 years old late this year.  Before then, I am working on physical, financial and spiritual goals, trying to simplify and engage in healthy activities that strengthen all these areas.  Losing weight - physically getting to a target weight and improving strength and endurance.  Cutting expenses and improving financial positioning for short and long term goals.  Improving relationships with Christ, family and friends, losing emotional baggage, dumping negativity and toxic influences in my life.

None of these things are hobbies, but are just life priorities that serve to balance the work of a more-than-full-time day job vs. leisure hobbies like painting miniatures and playing games.  While the 6MMRPC seems to take a back seat with me for the moment, I am finding overall that I am okay with that because I place a higher value on these other areas of my life.  I know that while I do not currently feel a driving need to escape from Real Life into miniatures, they are ready and waiting for my return.

Leading into Week 6, I cleaned up my studio/home office and made room for painting.  There is also a tablet nearby for Netflix and painting tutorials, watching the new Reaper Bones III Kickstarter and blogging.  I plan more de-cluttering and simplifying this week, but there is a chance of getting to the workbench in a few days.  If so, I will try to snap a few pics and post updates.  Until then, Cheers!
